We're Tom, Lucy, Flynn and Meg. A family of four (plus paws) exploring Northumberland and beyond.
We usually reply within a couple of days - sometimes quicker if we're not out on a walk.
You'll also find us on Instagram, sharing the everyday moments between the big adventures.
Heather & Sand follows one family as they explore Northumberland — its beaches, hills, villages, castles, cafés and the quieter places found along the way.
Tom spent many childhood summers here with his grandparents, and those memories stayed with him long after he left. Now he and Lucy have made the move north themselves, bringing baby Flynn and Meg, their ever-enthusiastic collie, along for the adventure.
They are happiest outdoors, whether that means a long coastal walk, a morning in the hills, lunch beside the harbour or simply finding somewhere new to stop and look around.
Along the way, they'll share the places they visit, the routes they walk, the food they find and the things that make travelling with a baby and a dog slightly less straightforward — but usually far more memorable.
This is not a guide to rushing around and ticking places off a list. It is an invitation to slow down, pull on your boots and spend a little time here.

Lucy brings warmth, curiosity and a very healthy appreciation for a good café at the end of a long walk.
She loves being outdoors, but she is equally happy discovering independent shops, galleries, beautiful places to stay and somewhere serving an excellent slice of cake.
Away from the trail, Lucy enjoys crafting, interiors and clothes that feel at home both on the coast and in the countryside. She has an eye for the small details — the things that can turn an ordinary stop into somewhere worth remembering.
Lucy will be sharing family-friendly days out, places to eat and stay, clothing, local makers and the practical realities of exploring with a baby in tow.
Northumberland has always felt familiar to Tom.
His grandparents lived here, and many of his happiest childhood memories were formed during summers spent exploring the coast and countryside. Returning with his own family feels like the beginning of a new chapter in a place that has never really left him.
Tom is rarely far from a camera. He loves photography, technology and finding the viewpoint that makes everyone else stop and turn around.
He is happiest on a long walk, following an unfamiliar path or planning the next place the family might explore.
Tom will be sharing routes, landscapes, photography, outdoor equipment and some of the history and stories behind the places they visit.

Flynn is the youngest member of the team and, at nine months old, currently travels in considerably more comfort than everyone else.
Most walks are completed from the safety of a carrier, although his arrival has added a new level of planning to even the simplest day out.
Feeding stops, changing facilities, pushchair-friendly paths and well-timed naps now matter almost as much as the view.
Through Flynn, Heather & Sand will look honestly at what it is like to explore, travel and spend time outdoors with a baby — including the lovely moments, the difficult moments and the occasional complete change of plan.

Meg is a collie, enthusiastic route finder and unofficial head of morale.
She approaches every beach, woodland and open field as though it has been arranged entirely for her benefit.
Meg is happiest running along the sand, investigating paths that were not part of the original route and encouraging everyone to walk slightly farther than intended.
She will help us discover dog-friendly walks, beaches, cafés, pubs, places to stay and the occasional patch of mud that everyone else would have preferred to avoid.

Got a question, a suggestion for somewhere we should visit, or just want to say hello? We'd genuinely love to hear from you.
