About The Running Fox

Tucked inside The Plough Inn in Powburn, The Running Fox has quickly become one of our favourite breakfast stops in the Breamish Valley. We'd visited before for lunch and afternoon tea, but a recent early start gave us the chance to try breakfast — and it didn't disappoint.

From outside, and even stepping through the door, it feels like a proper old-fashioned country pub. Keep going through the bar, though, and you'll find a lovely dining area tucked away behind it, with a warm welcome for dogs as well as their owners.

Two full English breakfasts, made with locally sourced ingredients, arrived with thick home-baked bread and a generous dish of proper butter — no fiddly foil packets in sight. Nobody rushed us, and nobody made us feel the table was needed back in an hour.

It's easily among the best breakfasts we've had in Northumberland, and we'll be back. 🍳☕
