About Carnaby's
Just off the A1 near Brownieside, Carnaby's occupies a lovely stone barn arranged around a courtyard — a favourite stop of ours when the appetite (and the itinerary) allows for a second breakfast.
Inside it's bright and welcoming, with a menu that goes well beyond the usual café suspects — the salads always look particularly tempting, even if we can rarely resist a full English.
Dogs are welcome in the courtyard, though not inside, so it's a better bet on a fine day than a wet one. There's a small gift shop worth a browse, spotless facilities, and easy parking.
A very good stop on the way up or down the coast.
